I love them too and have just purchased one. I thought as it is written on my letter from GMH that they were NEVER called a Monaro? It is refered to at Holden as an HX LE Coupe. The Monaro was in fact a 4 door gts version in 1977. At least this is what Holden have stated in their letter of authenticity?

Hi I first found my Hx Le Coupe 8yrs ago we were looking for a magna as a family car while looking in magna section of paper was hx le for sale so I googled it as I’ve always been a Monaro lover but I’d never seen an Le until that day I know they are not classed as a monaro but it didn’t matter she was in a class of her own and that was it I had to have it so we took 4 hour trip and brought her home never did get that magna. She is my pride and joy at the moment I’m tryin to track down an inlet manifold for her but getting very hard to find if there is any chance that someone may know where there is one I would be so grateful for any help on this matter I think I read some where on her that someone had instrument probs there is a place in Tamworth that can fix them they fixed mine and they work fine now hope that helps Cheers

I have a 1976, 4 door HX GTS Monaro and I also have a letter from Holden stating that the last Holden to carry the name Monaro was the 4 door version. The 76 coupe was just that and the 78 model HZ was simply called a GTS. It doesnt matter what was planned or intended, these are the facts. I also believe the LE Coupe and the HZ 4 door should have been called Monaro, but its not our decision to make.

  6. kane says:

I have a hx 4 door gts and a hx le, currently rebuiling both of them. I have the plates 76 le hx, and le.mnro so whether or not the le is a monaro i will be using one of the plates on it when i re-register her again… just cant come quick enough though!

  9. Chris says:

    Hey Mick,

I think you’d need to contact holden directly. I’m not sure who you call or where you send a letter, maybe someone else has managed to get a letter of authenticity and knows the process?
